The town is set between the woods and vineyards on one side and the river on the other. The buildings are in the Belle Epoque style which enhances the romance.
The unforgettable Mosel landscape, which appears to be a mighty amphitheatre, is unique, and the breath-taking, steep slate vineyards will interest every wine connoisseur. You will find a cosy castle tavern and castle garden in the ruins, which provide an excellent view of the Mosel River.
Today, only a few remnants of the once mighty walls, casemates and cellar vaults are still preserved. The plans of the fortress and archaeological findings are on display in the Middle Mosel Museum. During the season, guided tours through the fortress ruins are routinely conducted. Special, individual tours are available for groups.
Traben-Trarbach is widely recognised as a remarkable cultural jewel on the Mosel and the Museum Row in Trarbach has contributed significantly to this reputation. The Middle Mosel Museum, the House of Icons and the renovated City Tower, with its carillon, form a compact cultural-historical centre on the historical square next to the City Tower - an ideal place to visit for all guests interested in local history and culture on the Mosel.
