Passau in Germany dates back to Roman times and lies at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube Rivers, near to the Austrian border.

In the old town, you find picturesque squares like the Domplatz, Residenzplatz and Rathausplatz, the church towers of St. Paul's, the convent Niedernburg (with tomb of St.Gisela), St.Michael's, the cathedral and the town hall tower and the enchanting footpaths along the Danube and Inn.

At the three river conjunction point, you can witness a most breathtaking natural spectacle as three rivers coming together in one place. In St. Steven's Cathedral, you may experience the world's largest cathedral organ.

With almost childlike joy, locals and visitors alike enjoy the Advent at the atmospheric Christmas market, held each year in the charming old town of Passau against the splendid backdrop of the Cathedral of St. Stephen.

The Old Town of Passau, rebuilt in the 17th century by Italian baroque masters after a devastating town fire, is outstandingly beautiful. At its heart rises the Cathedral of St. Steven with its three characteristic, green onion-domed towers.

Most of the sights are in Passau's Old Town: churches, the New Bishop's Residence, the magnificent gothic Town Hall and most of Passau's museums. Picturesque places, romantic lanes and enchanting riverfront promenades invite visitors to take a rest and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

The Veste Oberhaus fortress in the North and the Pilgrimage Church "Mariahilf" in the South are enthroned high above Passau's Old Town.

Combining quality drama with a dramatic setting, the Stadttheater Company is housed in the Stadttheater Passau, Gottfried-Schäfer-Strasse, a beautiful baroque opera house built by the local prince-bishops. Call for performance schedules and ticket prices. Summertime brings drama, pantomime, opera, jazz, and classical concerts to town, scheduled as part of the Europäische Wochen (European Weeks) Festival, which runs June to late July.

Home to Passau's popular cabaret company, Theater im ScharfrichterHaus, is open September to July. It also hosts a series of jazz concerts throughout the year. Contact the theatre for schedules, prices, and ticket availability.

Café Innsteg, housed in a bungalow hanging over the Inn River, offers the town's most scenic setting in which to relax with a drink. Like every other cafe/bar in town, it's open from midmorning until 1am. Café Kowalski, is less dramatic but also has balcony views of the river. Underground, across the river, Joe's Garage, is a friendly student pub named after a Frank Zappa album.

Altes Bräuhaus

Regional food at the bridge with views of Veste Oberhaus.

Restaurant " Am Paulusbogen"

This restaurant is near the cathedral and offers regional and international food.

Inn Andorfer

The restaurant provides a wood stove and guests can enjoy a tour of its own brewery.
