This picturesque corner of Germany near the Swiss border is one of Europe's most famous regions.

Conjuring up images of walking, cake and cuckoo clocks, the Black Forest is also famous for its legends and traditions. designated as a nature park, the largest in Europe, the Black Forest offers ideal conditions for cyclists and walkers who are treated to over 23,000 kilometers of walking trails in this region.

Its Black Forest gateaux - famous the world over, unsurprisingly tastes better when enjoyed at the source. The Black Forest region is a joy to explore independently by car - we have put together the perfect itinerary for you to make the most of your stay here, taking in the delightful towns of Freiburg, Triberg and Titisee-Neustadt.

Freiburg can be found at the Southern end of the Black Forest. This lively city is dominated by the magnificent Munster cathedral on the bustling market square. as you stroll through the town, be sure to look down at the pavement for the colourful mosaics usually found in front of the shops. Be careful not to step into the little rivers (Bachle) running parallel to many footpaths.

Traditional Triberg is renowned for its exceptional cuckoo clocks and is home to the original Black Forest Gateau. You will also find Germany's highest waterfalls nearby, with seven watery cascades following the course of nature in a magnificent spectacle.

Titisee and the crystal-clear water of its lake, attract visitors from far and wide. Swim or pedalo to your heart's content, or explore the numerous walking paths leading from the lake into the charming surrounding countryside.
