The Royatonic spa resort is located in between Royat and Chamalières, in the Massif Central Mountains. It’s known for its Baroque style architecture, brightly coloured hotels and water pavilions. The River Tiretaine runs through the area from the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park nearby, supplying the spa with natural, mineral water best known for its properties in helping cardiovascular diseases and rheumatology.
This spa dates all the way back to the 7th century and you can walk through the park located within the resort to learn all about Royat – Chamalières’ heritage. Jacuzzis, steam rooms and outdoor pools are all within the complex. As the water is so warm, you can take a dip in the outdoor pools during the evenings in the winter time. Some of the pools mix essential oils into their water to provide benefits to the skin. Treatments such as massages are also available.
If you fancy doing something else while in Royat, why not try Charade Aventure? This adventure park gives you the chance to try out zip lines, monkey bridges or just have a wander. The Royat Museum is also nearby and will take you through the history of Royat and its thermal spas.
Plus, if you don’t mind travelling further afield, the Cathedrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is located in nearby Clermont Ferrand. This Gothic cathedral is built with volcanic rocks and has beautiful stained glass windows.
