New Year, New River Cruise Ships
2016 saw new arrivals on the Douro and Elbe, among others, but here are the latest additions we can expect in 2017.

Every year, new river vessels are launched as operators bid to take more of a share of the market. Whether it means companies are venturing into previously unchartered waters for them or simply debuting new ships on the same routes, it means more capacity and more opportunities for passionate cruisers to see the destinations they love. 2016 saw new arrivals on the Douro and Elbe when specially built ships like Viking Osfrid and Elbe Princesse starting plying these waterways. However, here are the new arrivals we can expect in 2017.

Amadeus Provence

Amadeus Provence

There are many things that are appealing about the south of France. The weather, the food and the relaxed way of life are just three of these which river cruisers will be looking to take advantage of when Amadeus Provence launches in the spring. Sailing on the Rhone and Saône rivers, on round-trips from Lyon, this new ship has the capacity for 140 and focusses on providing plenty of space, especially on the sun deck. There is an infinity plunge pool in which to dip your feet and eight spacious suites that feature walk-out balconies.

American Constellation

American Constellation

American Constellation will predominantly offer more opportunities for travellers to explore the Hudson River, but will also sail other itineraries around the New England coastline for American Cruise Lines. There will be enough room on board for 170 guests, with options that include the chance to enjoy the sumptuous owner’s suite or forgo any single supplements in a single stateroom. There will also be complimentary Wi-Fi, a putting green on the top deck and an exercise room.

African Dream

CroisiEurope are planning to launch no less than five river ships in 2017, with African Dream representing arguably the most exciting launch. Accompanied by a land stay in the Chobe National Park and at Victoria Falls, guests will spend three days cruising the Chobe River on board this new ship. There will be just eight luxurious suites on board, providing a stylish and intimate atmosphere during what will be a memorable safari. The ship will make its debut in November.

Emerald Radiance

Emerald Radiance

As well as launching two ships that will sail the Rhine, Danube, Main and Rhone Rivers, Emerald Waterways are offering their own ship specially designed to deal with the narrow locks of the Douro River. This Portuguese waterway grew heavily in popularity during 2016 and this shows no sign of slowing down. The ship will have the capacity for 112 guests and will feature Emerald’s brand new Riverview Suites, which make use of retractable floor-to-ceiling windows that create a balcony at the push of a button.

Joie de Vivre

Joie de Vivre

Offering Seine river cruises from Paris, Uniworld’s Joie de Vivre will feature the line’s typical penchant for vibrant yet elegant design. Specifically curated art and antiques can be found throughout and the ever-present Savoir of England beds will ensure a comfortable night’s sleep for all.

Viking Hild & Viking Herja

It wouldn’t be right to talk about new river ships without mentioning Viking River Cruises who are known for launching multiple vessels at once. This year, however, they are adding just two new names to their ever-expanding fleet as they welcome Viking Hild (named after a Norse goddess with the power to give life to people following a battle) and Viking Herja (named after one of the powerful Old Norse Valkyries). Both vessels will sail on the Rhine and feature all the amenities the Viking Longships have become famous for.

There are many great ships making their debuts this year and we can help you find the perfect itinerary aboard any of them. For more details on the new arrivals and their 2017 river cruises, contact us today.
