Indian Pacific

The sister train to The Ghan crosses the entire width of the vast country of Australia completely, from its most easterly city, Perth, to the most westerly - and most visited - Sydney.  The all-inclusive journey takes three (westbound) or four (eastbound) nights to travel between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, hence the name of this silver hotel on wheels.

The modern wood-panelled sleeper cabins feature a lounge area and a large window to admire the wealth of landscapes and displays of colour passing by – ranging from yellows, oranges and vibrant greens under pink and blue skies.

Leaving the lovely city of Perth, you’ll glide through arable lands with wide heavens, perfect for admiring the sunset ahead of a delicious dinner made using seasonal produce, arriving into the mining town of Kalgoorlie in the evening where you can explore for a couple of hours. Your steward will have transformed your cabin into cosy sleeping quarters before the train continues its voyage through the night.

In the morning, an early start is well worth it to watch the sunrise at Kalgoorlie, before breakfast before the train cruises through scrubland to the barren expanse of the Nullarbor Plain and ghost town of Cook – said to have a population of just 4 people!  Ahead of another tempting evening meal, the train will meander along the longest single stretch of railway in the world - at around 300 miles long - before arriving into Adelaide.  To make the most your time in Adelaide there is a choice of Off Train Experiences, as well as a further excursion selection when you reach Broken Hill in the heart of the Outback on Day 4.

Available Northbound only

On your final day, you’ll wake in the Blue Mountains region – so named for the misty haze given off by the abundance of native eucalyptus trees lending a blueish hue to the air. You will have the chance to see the monumental Three Sisters rock formation on an Off Train Experiences, or stay on board Indian Pacific, arriving into Sydney in the late afternoon.

We can arrange pre- and post- travel hotel stays, flights and further exploration around Australia on a tailor-made holiday, please call our team of helpful specialists to help you build this train into your dream holiday.
