Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has recently launched a new, interactive app for their customers. It was designed to help assist and support all guests before and during their cruise, and has plenty of features and sections that enable them to get the most out of their holiday.

This innovative app allows you to see your personal cruise countdown, pre-book any shore tours and view your cruising history before your cruise has even set sail. It’s available for use on all four ocean cruise ships (Balmoral, Black Watch, Boudicca and Braemar) and, in due course, Brabant will be added to the app, so all river cruising guests can make use of it too.

Who designed and created it?

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines created this app with SimpleClick in response to the high demand of customers requesting more technological solutions, to enhance their cruise experience and provide plenty of information about their chosen cruise. SimpleClick have worked with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines for 10 years now and so they’ve built up a strong business relationship, meaning they were quick to respond with the changing demands during the development process and ensured it was delivered on time.

What are its features?

Some of the features you’ll be able to find on the app include the onboard restaurant and bar menus, a ship tracking section and digital deck plan, so you can navigate yourself around the ship confidently. A digital version of the Daily Times can also be found on here and allows you to filter and favourite your planned activities, as well as set reminders and alerts as to when they’re occurring, so you’ll never miss out.

If you wish to create your own shore tour or go off on an independent excursion, you can look on the destination information section on the app and see what sites and areas are suggested. The time spent in each of the individual ports is also on the app, so make sure you check this before booking any attractions and activities.

What is its purpose?

One of the main reasons Fred. Olsen Cruise lines created this app is because their cruisers are getting more and more digital-literate, meaning they’re very familiar with accessing and using apps. The company also wanted to reduce their impact on the environment so, by producing the app, they’re using less paper for information sheets.

Does it require Wi-Fi?

The most important thing to take into account is that the app doesn’t necessarily need Wi-Fi, so all guests can download and use it without having to pay for onboard connectivity. Certain sections of the app do require an internet connection, however, the majority of the app doesn’t.

After purchasing an ocean cruise, all customers will be sent an email encouraging them to download the free app onto their phone or tablet, before coming aboard. It can be downloaded via the App Store on Apple products, or on Google Play for Android users. Due to it being a new development for Fred.
