Lying just on the edge of the Arctic Circle, Reykjavik is the world’s northern most capital. As well as providing a fantastic balance between adventurous pursuits and leisurely attractions, it also establishes an equilibrium between the polar night, when the Northern Lights often shine, and the Midnight Sun, when, for a few weeks at least, daylight is perpetual.
For a small city, there’s plenty of culture to discover, including performances at the stunning Harpa Concert Hall and some intriguing museums.
The relationship with the harbour, and the sea in general, is easy to see and, when you climb to the top of the beautiful Hallgrimskirkja, you can look out towards the wilderness, where exciting excursions will take you.
