A First Look at the Amadeus Provence

0800 988 3369As part of the CLIA Riverview Conference, I had the incredible opportunity to step aboard Amadeus Riva. What made this experience even more special was being granted exclusive access beyond the standard visit, allowing me to explore the ship at a relaxed pace and truly take in the sense of luxury that Amadeus River Cruises is renowned for.
From the moment I boarded, Amadeus Riva felt calm, elegant and beautifully designed. Every space has clearly been created with comfort, refinement and a seamless guest experience in mind.
My visit began in the main lounge and bar area, which immediately made an impression. With floor to ceiling windows on either side, the space is flooded with natural light and offers stunning river views throughout. The furnishings are chic yet inviting, striking a perfect balance between contemporary elegance and relaxed comfort.
I also had the chance to sample some beautifully prepared small bites and desserts, all of which were absolutely delicious and a wonderful introduction to the high culinary standards onboard.
I was then able to look around the rooms, which were open for viewing. They felt wonderfully open and spacious, expertly furnished with every comfort you could need - and more. Each stateroom has been thoughtfully designed to feel like a luxurious retreat rather than just a cabin.
The suites were particularly impressive. Alongside a generous sleeping space, they feature a comfortable seating area and a walk in wardrobe, offering plenty of storage for all the essentials and ample room to relax. The floor to ceiling sliding doors allow you to open up your suite to the river, leaning out onto the balcony to enjoy the fresh air as the scenery gently drifts by. It’s moments like this that truly capture the magic of river cruising.
Next, I explored the aft lounge at the back of the ship - a smaller, quieter space perfect for unwinding at the end of a busy day exploring. With 24 hour tea and coffee facilities, it’s ideal for early mornings or late evening relaxation. I also learned that this lounge can be reserved for special occasions, making it a wonderfully versatile and intimate venue.
This lounge sits beside a staircase leading up to the sun deck. Although there wasn’t much sunshine during my visit, the sun deck still stood out as one of the most beautiful areas onboard. There is an abundance of seating, including generously cushioned lounger sofas, allowing guests to stretch out, relax and enjoy watching the world go by.
One of the most striking areas of the ship is Café Vienna, located just above reception and before the staterooms. Overlooking the space below, it opens the area up beautifully, creating a light and airy feel. This is another perfect spot to relax with a coffee and talk through the adventures of the day with fellow guests.
No ship would be complete without an exceptional restaurant, and Amadeus Riva certainly delivers. The Panorama Restaurant is sleek, modern and bespoke, with floor to ceiling windows and elegant décor throughout.
While I didn’t have the privilege of sampling the food myself, after speaking with fellow guests who had, I must admit I left feeling very jealous. The open layout, stunning views and beautifully designed space make it clear that dining onboard is a true highlight.
Other worthy mentions include the treatment room, where guests can enjoy a wide range of spa and beauty treatments, and the fitness room, ideal for those who like to stay active while cruising.
Overall, my experience aboard Amadeus Riva was one to remember. It is a truly gorgeous ship and a definite standout compared to others we had the opportunity to explore. The thoughtful design, refined luxury and calming atmosphere throughout make it exceptionally special.
In fact, the visit has inspired me to book a river cruise with Amadeus myself - hopefully for 2027. After stepping onboard Amadeus Riva, it’s easy to see why this luxury brand is so highly regarded.
