Bregenz is surrounded by Lake Constance and is a beautiful small town of approximately 30,000 people. It is famous for the Bregenz festival, offering operas and plays held on a floating stage, and is also a perfect place to go hiking, cycling or swimming.
Bregenz is situated at the foot of the Pfänder Mountain. The upper town district is the oldest part, with buildings dating back to the 13th century. The Martin's Tower is the main landmark of the city, a building with a late Roman core and mainly Baroque style architecture.

Fort Heldsberg
Fort Heldsberg is a piece of living history, built in 1398 on the Swiss/Austrian border, the fort was used as part of the Swiss Border Line defenses during World War II, to prevent attack across the Rhine. The fort is now home to a museum detailing the history of the fort itself and the war is took part in.

The gallery for contemporary art in Bregenz is one of Europe's leading galleries, both in terms of its architecture and it contemporary program of works.
Mehrerau
Located just on the outskirts of Bregenz is this Cistercian territorial abbey and cathedral. Dating all the way back to 611, the abbey is not only full of history, but also overlooks the glorious Lake Constance.
Kornmesser
Located inside an 18th century baroque Gasthaus, Kornmesser, serves up local favourites including pork knuckle with bread dumplings and 'emperors pancake'.
Wirtshaus am See
This cosy timbered villa, sits right on the lakefront and offers beautiful views of the surrounding scenery. Here you can experience local specialities such as Bodensee whitefish, as well as an abundance of vegetarian options.

This tiny and quirky cafe has the best snacks and picnic food in town, from brownies and smoothies, to bagels and salads.
