And, of course, there is the option to add a day trip to Zermatt (or extend your stay there) where the Gornergrat cogwheel railway takes you up from the village to 3,100 metres, for the best views of the mighty Matterhorn mountain – and it is here that you can get up close to another local resident, the blacknose sheep.
