Trendy Rotterdam is a city of many sides. It offers sophisticated shopping opportunities, art and museums, great nightlife and excellent food. The city has been renowned as a centre of modern architecture since the 1920s and 1930s - it was here that the Netherlands Architecture Institute was founded before going on to build its fantastic reputation. The city is also home to the Netherlands' largest indoor market, with 100 fresh produce sellers, 15 food shops and 8 restaurants. You can buy anything from fresh bread to delicious cheese, fish, poultry and even flowers and plants - all under one roof.

There is always something to do in Rotterdam and the surrounding areas...

Visit the Scheepvaarmuseum (shipping museum) and the Steamship Rotterdam.

Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Brussels has the Atomium and Rotterdam has the Euromast! Enjoy the views from the top where you can see as far as The Hague and Antwerp on a clear day. Then, for a real adventure, you can abseil back down.

Dive into Rotterdam's maritime history at the Maritime Museum. With over one million maritime objects and a raft of interactive experiences for you to explore, the Maritime Museum is particularly suited for a fun family day out.

The old harbour area Kop van Zuid has become a modern part of the centre of Rotterdam. Designer Shops, restaurants and theatres are located in the quarter, as well as modern office blocks and apartments.

The Cube Flats "Blaakse Bos", designed by Piet Blum, are one of the most spectacular examples of the modern architecture in the Netherlands. The 38 flats resemble a cube standing on one of its corners. One of the flats is accessible so you can experience what life in a cube is like.

The White House, built in 1897 and with a height of 43 metres, was the first skyscraper in Europe. It is now a UNESCO world heritage site.

The Harbour of Rotterdam is by far the largest in Europe and one of the largest in the world. Over 230,000 people work there over a stretch of 40 kilometres.

The symbol of the city is the Euromast, standing at a height of 185 metres. Once at the top, visitors can enjoy a meal in the restaurant with a fantastic view or take one of the exciting discovery tours with a multimedia guide.

The most recommended restaurants in Rotterdam are to be found around the Eendrachtsplein and at the Nieuwe Binnenweg area, along with a wide selection of cafes, bars and pubs.

In addition, the centre of the city presents a range of other facilities:

At Stroom's, guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is well known for its steak specialities.

The light and open restaurant Amarone specialises in French-Mediterranean cuisine. It has a wide selection of wine and is winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

Z & M Delicatessen is a family owned restaurant which offers organic, local and fresh food with high quality ingredients.

The Witte de Withstraat connects the museum park and the Maritime Museum. This is one of the most dynamic and artistic streets in the city. Modern shops and art galleries create a unique ambience for all who love to shop.

The Beursplein, the Van Oldebarneveltstraat, Karel Doormanstraat, Aert van Nesstraat, Lijnbaan, Kruiskade, Coolsingel, Meent and Rodezand street make up the fashion quarter with stylish shops, boutiques and lovely bistros.

The Alexandrium is located on the Korte Poolsterstraat. This unique shopping centre provides over 135 shops with everything customers could possibly desire. The centre uses the slogan 'If you can't get it there, it doesn't exist'.
