One of our fantastic team, Emma Moody, had the honour of being invited to the recent christening of Amadeus Queen in Amsterdam. He are her first impressions of the ship.
Walking along the river bank, through a bustling and vibrant Amsterdam, we saw the beautiful MS Amadeus Queen decked with balloons and bursting with life. The 162-passenger vessel was completed only weeks ago and she’s the latest addition to the Amadeus River Cruises fleet. We boarded the ship and were greeted by not only the passionate and attentive crew, but by the Lueftner family themselves.
Amadeus River Cruises is one of very few family-owned and operated river cruise companies sailing the European rivers today. The christening of a new ship is certainly a family affair, extended to those also considered family, and a sailing aboard an Amadeus River Cruises vessel is no different. Celebrity endorsements are simply non-existent and each and every ship to join the fleet is christened with a family member as its Godmother. MS Amadeus Queen followed tradition and the youngest of three daughters, Corina, was given the honours. She spoke about her passion for Amadeus River Cruises and how proud she was on this day, just as proud as she felt christening her very first ship at just nine years old. As the champagne bottle smashed against the hull of the vessel, the crowd cheered and it was bubbles all around for everyone.
Following the ceremony, we were able to walk around the ship and see the beauty and detail that had gone into this creation for ourselves. The overall persona of the ship screamed understated elegance and the small touches were the biggest show stoppers. Bright lights lit the corridors and cabin numbers, and open spaces welcomed us in with vast windows and reflective mirrors. The biggest addition to the ship was the swimming pool located in the Amadeus Club at the aft of the ship. A retractable roof allows for fresh air and sunlight to penetrate the relaxing room, which also houses a bar and a 24-hour tea and coffee facility.
Public spaces are in abundance on board the ship. In addition to the Amadeus Club, a large, spacious and open Sun Deck boasts nothing more than a shuffleboard and vast seating options, whilst the Panorama Bar offers relaxation with panoramic views. The bar area leads to a part-shielded river terrace, which is best enjoyed when sailing along the river with nothing but views ahead. As well as these facilities, passengers can also make use of the hair salon, massage room and fitness room, equipped with weights, yoga mats and bike machines.
The cabins on board are spacious and offer all of the modern facilities you would expect in a 4-star hotel room. Beds are offered in either twin or double configuration and each cabin has a wealth of storage space, most with walk-in wardrobes complete with slippers and robes! The bathrooms are sleek and shower space is fairly large, complete with L'Occitane toiletries. French Balcony cabins are offered with drop down panoramic windows so that passengers can let in light and fresh air, as well as a balcony effect next to an additional seating area within the cabin. The 135m long by 11.4m wide vessel also boasts 12 spacious suites which offer a small outdoor balcony as well as an additional seating area inside the cabin and a new addition of a small library.
