Is Cruising The New Holiday Of Choice For Millennials?
Cruising has been known as a great way to see the world for just over 100 years, but in this time many people have created a perception that cruising is only for the older generation.

Cruising has been known as a great way to see the world for just over 100 years, but in this time many people have created a perception that cruising is only for the older generation. And while some ships are catered to the more mature cruiser, some operators are now looking towards a younger market to take over this way of navigating the world.

This is due to the steady increase in millennials who are looking to cruise - they now make up 38% of the market, while over 55's represent only 28% of the market. So, whether you are looking to find a brand new adventure during 2019 or want to see what cruising is all about, here are a few reasons why cruising is great for millennials.

New Ships

With the announcement of Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady in early 2017, everyone has been intrigued to see what this new wave of cruising would bring. But even with Richard Branson's new ship on the horizon, there are still lots to choose from when it comes to 'younger' cruise vessels. Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line have been promoting their vessels to the younger market for a long time, with activities such as sky diving simulators, surfing simulators, race tracks and some of Disney's classic characters to entice cruisers in.

If you are excited for the arrival of Scarlet Lady, you can expect some of the latest technology, including tablets that can control your room, Wi-Fi to send all your Instagramable moments and a whole host of newly formatted restaurants with the younger generation in mind. The most notable addition to Virgin's Voyages' ship is the recently revealed tattoo parlour, a bizarre (or exciting) first at sea.

Destinations

As the main selling point of cruising, the promise of experiencing plenty of the different countries in just one sailing is always an exciting prospect. And while this is might come with a slight price increase, there are a lot more inclusion's that you can expect from cruising, including meals, excellent service, evening entertainment and more. So, depending on where you want to travel, you might be able to tick more off your list than first expected. Cruising is great for reaching lesser-known destinations, so if you have a destination in mind you will most likely be able to cruise there.

Cruise lines are also featuring more thrilling activities for younger cruisers on and off their ships. While you are competing in a fast-paced game of laser tag on board, you can enjoy RIB rides, kayaking and even surfing while in port. Even if you can't find what you are looking for, most cruise operators are happy to accommodate whatever you would like to do.

Finally, themed cruises are also a great choice for millennials who are looking to meet like-minded people. There are plenty of options to choose from with the annual Zumba cruise being a hot favourite, or the more authentic 'Dance the Atlantic' that will host the English National Ballet as special guests.
