Ourense Province is located in the south of Galicia, in the north-west of Spain, an area surrounded by mountains and filled with hot springs. Here, you can enjoy a therapeutic experience in the thermal waters whilst enjoying the greenery and foliage around you.
Outariz Thermal Station Spa has ten outdoor and three indoor pools – some with jets, others with temperatures ranging from 27 to 45 Degrees Celsius. This spa was inspired by the Japanese Onsen bathing culture and, therefore, has two circuits, The Zen and the Celtic. The Zen circuit includes calm waters in curved wooden pools, whereas the Celtic loop involves jets and waterfalls. Both include traditional Japanese baths which involve hot tubs, barrels of cold water and whirlpools. Massages and various beauty treatments are also available.
Once you’ve visited the thermal spa, you may want to see the Ourense San Martino Cathedral, founded in 550 and built in the shape of a cross. It’s a Roman Catholic Church that features Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The Gate of Paradise is a very prominent aspect of the cathedral with a colourful, hypnotic feel to it. However, photos inside are prohibited.
