El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo

Following parts of the Camino de Santiago - or The Way of St. James – this route meanders through “Green Spain”, from San Sebastián (Donastia) in the Basque Country, along the Atlantic coast and down to Santiago de Compostela; the site of the shrine of St. James and an important Catholic pilgrimage site.

The train forms your luxury sleeping quarters, dining room, lounge and dancefloor for the seven-night journey in either direction, travelling through the regions of Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria en route.

El Transcantábrico is stationary overnight, meaning you can take a stroll into the town while the train remains in the station, or enjoy the festivities in the onboard nightclub! The four saloon cars date back to the 1920s and include a bar, and quiet lounge areas where you can ensconce yourself. Or you can choose to retire to the privacy of your comfortable private suite.

The suites on this moving hotel are very large, and feature as a standard a double bed (there are limited twin-bedded suites available and one triple suite), with en suite shower/bath and WC and a lounge area separated from the sleeping area by a wardrobe.

The catering is thoughtfully presented, with fine dining using regional produce and flavours, and wines expertly paired. Most meals are taken on board the train, but some are taken in local restaurants, depending on the itinerary.

Just like its sister train Al-Andalus there is a selection of escorted excursions throughout the trip, and plenty of free time to relax and gaze out of the panoramic windows.
