The Jungfrau region is one of the most popular destinations within Switzerland, especially if you’re looking to see some of the best natural scenery that the country can offer. A stay in one of the luxurious hotels in charming towns such as Wengen, Interlaken and Grindelwald will mean you’ll wake up, throw open the curtains and immediately feel as though you have been transported to another world.
The most iconic attraction here is the Jungfraujoch – Europe’s highest train station. Climb aboard the Jungfraubahn and climb to a height of 3,454 metres, travelling through a tunnel in the Eiger Mountain and past breathtaking landscapes. When you reach the end of the line, you’ll be just below the summit of the Jungfrau Mountain, for which this region is named, and will be able to explore a range of different attractions. The Sphinx viewing building offers yet more fantastic vistas, whilst you can also trek across the glacier, frolic in year-round snow and step into the Ice Palace.
Whilst the Jungfrau grabs all the headlines, there is so much more that you’ll never run out of things to see and do. A range of activities that includes hiking trails, paragliding, waterfall walks, canyoning, cable cars, funiculars, toboggans, zip-lines and trottibikes will ensure you’re kept busy in all seasons – each one taking place in front of a stunning backdrop of impressive peaks and lush valleys.
Any James Bond fans should also make the journey up to top of the Schilthorn. The mountain was the setting for a ski chase involving Bond and Blofeld in the film ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ and now hosts a Bond-inspired walk of fame and an interactive museum called Bond World 007. Even if you’re not an admirer of the British spy, you won’t want to miss the chance to dine in the Piz Gloria rotating restaurant.
