A few miles west of Venice, close to the shores of Lake Garda, another treasure is waiting to be discovered. The tales of Romeo and Juliet are alive on the streets of Verona but this alluring city has plenty more to offer.

Pretty churches and bridges set the scene for a romantic break and, whilst your surroundings create a feast for the eyes, one for the stomach is being prepared in every restaurant and café. Throw in the impressive amphitheatre and some excellent art and there are more reasons to visit Verona than you can shake a spear at.

Arena di Verona

This wonderfully preserved amphitheatre was built in the 1st century and still hosts opera performances today.

Juliet’s House

Stand on the balcony from which Juliet declared her love for Romeo in the Shakespearian classic. A statue of her is said to bring good luck in love to anyone who touches it.

Castelvecchio

Located in a medieval castle along the banks of the river, this museum houses a vast collection of sculpture, statues, paintings and ancient weaponry.

Located on the site of Verona's Roman fish market, Pescheria I Masenini serves up modern an imaginative seafood dishes.
