This picturesque town is beautifully situated at the western end of Lake Thun and is also known as the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. The impressive castle looms above the medieval Old Town, which perfectly combines great shopping opportunities and historical sights.
A walk along the River Aare to the Schadau Castle & Park provides great views over the lake. Thun is very popular for water sports, sailing and beaches and this, along with an extensive cycling network, makes it a great destination for outdoor activities of all kinds.
Located on the south side of Lake Thun, is the Swiss heritage site of Schadau Castle. Dating back to the mid-1800s, the castle is a stunning example of the Gothic Revival style and now contains a Swiss Gastronomy Museum and restaurant.
Overlooking the city, Thun Castle is a significant tourist attraction, and today houses the castle museum. Built in the 12th century, the castle was originally a small fort and church.
This stunning lake is perfectly situated for an experience packed holiday, with opportunities for hiking and city explorations of nearby Thun and Aer.
