France

With its monumental cathedral featuring delicate carvings, Strasbourg is one of Europe's most attractive cities. Thanks to the richness and sheer density of its historic attractions, the entire town centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage city. Strasbourg is definitely well worth a visit, to discover its history, its cuisine and its unique atmosphere.

Strasbourg Cathedral

The city's crowning glory, Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is an outstanding example of gothic architecture. It is still in use with regular religious ceremonies, particularly on bank holidays. Individual tourists can visit the tower in summer months.

Musée Alsacien

This museum occupies three mansions from the 16th and 17th centuries. It's like a living textbook of the folklore and customs of Alsace, containing arts, crafts, and tools of the old province.

Palais de Rohan

This palace south of the cathedral is a sublime example of elegance and proportion, noted for its facades, rococo interior and is one of the finest design achievements in eastern France.

Place de la Cathédrale

Here, you will find an assortment of performers and artists all-year-round. In the summer months, additional folk dances take place all over town. In the streets surrounding Place de la Cathédrale (Rue des Frères, Rue des Soeurs and Rue de la Croix), you will find a lot of wine bars, clubs and restaurants.

Au Crocodile

This exclusive restaurant serves the most inventive food in Strasbourg within beautiful surroundings. A special highlight is the fixed-price menus which revolve around creative themes, i.e. Egypt and Victor Hugo.

Maison des Tanneurs

This restaurant, serving traditional Alsatian-style cuisine, is decorated with flowers and antiques that create a warm atmosphere and has a terrace that opens onto the canal.

Brasserie de l'Ancienne Douane

The largest and most colourful dining spot in Strasbourg. Established in the oldest part of town, it offers 600 seats indoors and 200 seats on a terrace. The interior includes high-ceilinged rooms and heavily timbered ceilings.

Strasbourg overflows with antique shops, artisans and craftspeople. Every well-accessorized home in Alsace owns some of the napkins, aprons, tablecloths, and towels of the Beauvillé textile mills.

Nappes d'Alsace has one of the widest selections of textiles in town.

Bastian specialises in 18th and 19th-century ceramic tureens that Alsace produced in abundance.

Arts et Collections d'Alsace is one of the most appealing shops in Strasbourg and offers copies of art objects from museums and private collections.
