Lake Bled has only one island but its uniqueness makes it more attractive than many an archipelago. Its charm has made it a symbol of a town to which guests travel from all over the world and love to return. This town, which has already existed for a thousand years, is Bled.

Famous at the beginning of the 20th century as the most beautiful health spa of the then Austrian empire, Bled attracts the European aristocratic elite. After WWII, one of the most attractive state residences of the former regime was located in Bled. Many of the world's most important people thus enjoyed its beauty and now, for decades, pilgrims of a new age have been discovering this town.

Cosmopolitan seekers of diversity and beauty, of relaxation and inspiration, tranquillity and the challenges of sport will find a multitude of opportunities. Walking and coaching trails around the lake, traditional boats, ringing the island's wishing bell, the castle treasures, the nearby ski pistes, mountain trails, golf courses, hunting, fishing, the casino, congress facilities - all of these are but fragments of Bled's attraction, which is truly worth experiencing. And those who experience it, long for it again and again…

From a castle on a hill to a plethora of churches and an extensive assortment of activities, Bled is full of things to see and do.

Some of the most popular attractions in the town include Bled Castle and the Church of the Assumption on the island of Lake Bled. In order to take in the stunning beauty of the lake in comfort, a trip on the tourist train could be a good idea.

For those who want a more active holiday, Bled offers a whole host of opportunities. Its proximity to the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park provides visitors the chance to hike, cycle and swim.

Other activities you can partake in during your Slovenia holiday in Bled include golf, gliding, alpine climbing, canoeing and horse riding. Winter sports like skiing and skating are also popular here.

Though the nightlife is not as vibrant as in some other cities, there are still plenty of things to do at night as well.

Along with a selection of pubs, you'll find cocktail bars and a casino. Cesta Svobode is a good street to check out if you're looking for a bar, and there are also places along Ljubljanska, including inside the shopping centre.

The town hosts many different festivals throughout the year. The most popular of these is the Bled Days, taking place each year around the 4th of July. With its concerts, fireworks and floating lights on the lake, this festival attracts the attention of many visitors.

As Bled is a relatively small town, you're rarely far from somewhere to eat. A selection of restaurants serving traditional Slovenian fare can be found around town, with international offerings also available.

The town's culinary speciality is the 'kremna rezina' or cream cake. An enticing mix of butter dough and vanilla cream, these cakes are enjoyed by large numbers of locals and visitors.

Other local favourites include 'struklji' (dumplings made with cottage cheese), 'potica' (a walnut roll) and 'kraski parsut' (air-dried pork). Various different wines are also produced locally and are well worth sampling.

Some of the city's most popular restaurants can be found along Cesta Svobode and Ljubljanska, with the shopping centre on Ljubljanska providing a surprising number of tasty meal options. A selection of coffee shops and taverns can also be found on these streets.
