Despite covering an area of just 2.6 sq miles, this British Overseas Territory has so much to offer. With a temperate climate throughout most of the year, its six beaches are the perfect place to soak up the sun, while its many famous natural landmarks are a draw for holiday-makers. Gibraltar was referred to in Greek mythology as one of the Pillars of Hercules, marking the edge of the Mediterranean and the known world.

Highlights

Visit the Apes' Den, home to some of Gibraltar's famous Barbary macaques, the only free-to-roam monkeys in Europe. According to legend, if the macaques leave Gibraltar it will cease to be British.

Visit St Michael's Cave - once believed to be bottomless, the famous Barbary macaques are said to have come to Gibraltar through a legendary undersea passage linking The Rock to Africa. The cave is now open to visitors and is used as the setting for concerts and other events.

For fantastic panoramic views over the Strait of Gibraltar, head to Europa Point. Why not take a tour to visit the Gibraltar Nature Reserve, Upper Rock?

Explore Gibraltar's spectacular underwater world - with more than 30 wrecks, reefs and pinnacles to choose from, there are excellent diving opportunities for beginners, experienced, open water and wreck divers.

The Rock is honeycombed with a 32 mile-long network of tunnels, and you can take a tour of the World War II tunnels excavated during 1939-1944 by the Royal Engineers and a contingent of Canadian Engineers. These are an extension to The Great Siege Tunnels excavated during The Great Siege of 1779-83.
