Hamburg is transformed into a fairy-tale Christmas city each November, with 15 specially themed Christmas markets. The Historical Christmas market in Rathausmarkt square harks back to Christmas past and each day all eyes turn to the sky as Father Christmas flies above the crowds on his sleigh. On each of the four Saturdays in Advent, people dressed as gnomes, angels and gingerbread men accompany seasonally decorated floats parading through the city centre.
