Celebrity Edge And What To Expect From Her

Arriving in Southampton on Monday, Celebrity Edge has made quite the statement since she started sailing in late 2018, with the most notable addition coming on her starboard side in the form of the Magic Carpet. Costing a monumental $1 billion, it's fair to say that Celebrity Cruises has invested big in the success of their new Edge Class ship. Her arrival marked the beginning of her summer season around Europe, the same voyage that her sister ship, Celebrity Apex, will take in summer 2020.

What's New?

The most obvious newcomer to Celebrity Cruises' features is the highly anticipated Magic Carpet. This 110 feet-long, 20 feet-wide,multi-purpose cantilever deck is the new central hub for the ship, with plenty of seating space and a bar on board where guests can admire stunning vistas in style. The Magic Carpet can visit several decks and transforms into different venues on each. It's most used function is the boarding process for the tender ships, acting as a stepping stone and helping customers who have less mobility. This also makes the shore excursion process easier, as more passengers can disembark the ship in a short space of time.

Celebrity Edge's tender ships have also been updated with the latest technology, including climate control, air-conditioning and even multiple TV screens that can display videos on the way to the port. Plus, with plenty of space on board and seating to carry around 100 passengers at onetime, getting to and from the port is nothing short of a breeze.

There are also two new category types including the Infinity Balcony and Edge Villas. The Infinity Balcony includes much that you would expect from any stateroom, but it also includes a 'new type of balcony', where a portion of your room can be converted into an outdoor area. This gives you the additional space of a balcony stateroom but can be converted depending on what you would prefer. Finally, the Edge Villas are a two-storey option, boasting 950 square feet of indoor and outdoor space - perfect for small and large families looking to get away.

Where Will She Be Sailing?

From 13th May 2019 to 1st November 2019, Celebrity Edge will be sailing around the Mediterranean visiting popular ports such as Rome, Monaco, Barcelona, Dubrovnik and many more. But after her summer season in the Med, she will return to Florida to sail the Caribbean with the rest of the Celebrity fleet.

Unfortunately, she will not return to Europe until 19th April 2020, but will remain in the Med for longer this time with cruises lasting up until 30th October 2020. Overall, it looks as if her cruising year will consist of a winter season in the Caribbean and a summer in Europe.

Celebrity Cruises Classics

With all of the new features, you might be left wondering if anything has been kept the same. However, there are still many Celebrity Cruises features that have made a reappearance, including kids clubs, Celebrity Life (Celebrity's Enrichment Program), the hideaway, studio and library. As with most ships, you will also be able to relax on a top deck that is fitted with one large pool and four Jacuzzis.

For many past Celebrity cruisers, this is a different experience. There are few quiet bars or lounges with slow music and most places are kitted out with the latest tech. But, if you can put this aside and get stuck into Celebrity Edge's fun side, this could be the perfect vessel for you.
