Bettering Britannia
Four years ago, Britannia was named by Her Majesty The Queen. Now P&O Cruises has just announced plans to make the ship even better.

It doesn’t seem that long ago since various members of the team were stepping aboard Britannia for the first time, moments after Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had named her in a ceremony at Southampton. That was four years ago now and P&O Cruises has just announced plans to make the ship even better.

Currently the flagship of the fleet, until Iona arrives at least, Britannia has earned a lot of admirers since she started offering a wide range of cruises directly from the UK. That doesn’t mean this jewel in the P&O Cruises crown can’t be polished even more, though, and this refurbishment (scheduled for October 2019) aims to prove that.

The vessel will only be in dry dock for around two weeks, emerging on 23rd October 2019 with a number of changes in three key areas…

Atrium

Britannia Atium Refit

The atrium of a ship always offers a warm welcome and has the tough job of providing that amazing first impression. The starburst chandelier already steals every guest’s attention as they step on board Britannia, but things are about to be turned up a notch in this part of the ship. Relaxed, live entertainment will make it somewhere you want to linger rather than just pass through, offering a range of musical and impromptu performances. We’ve also been promised a “fresh design direction”, so you’ll have to wait and see what changes the new decor brings.

Just down from the Atrium, a new permanent art gallery will be installed outside Blue Bar, whilst Eric Lanlard’s popular afternoon tea in the Market Café will feature an updated menu.

Shopping

Shopping may not be the reason you choose to go on a cruise, but some time spent wandering in and out of the various jewellery, clothing and souvenir shops can certainly make those sea days go faster. After the redesign, there will be a much bigger buzz about this part of the ship thanks to new interactive stations that give you the chance to try Edinburgh Gin or enjoy a beauty consultation with the stylists from Tom Ford and Jo Malone.

There will also be several more high-end brands joining the range of shops available.

Spa

Britannia Spa Refit

As if the onboard Oasis Spa and Salon wasn’t relaxing enough already, there will be further enhancements to give guests an even larger selection of treatments to choose from. As well as an Arctic Cold Room and an Aroma Steam Room to help with circulation and stress respectively, two ‘express spa’ pods will be added for anyone will little time on their hands. These exciting and advanced options will provide high-tech massages in one pod and express skin and lash treatments as you lay on a zero-gravity lounger in the other.

If you want to be one of the first guests to see these changes, book a Britannia cruise for when she emerges from her refurbishment. You can call us on 0800 035 0701 or contact us via the website.
