Alternatives To La Gomera’s Most Popular Locations
Although La Gomera is one of the lesser-known Canary Islands, it’s getting more and more popular, so here are some alternatives to its popular places.

Although La Gomera is one of the lesser-known Canary Islands, it’s getting more and more popular. Tourists can enjoy a stay in the beautiful Hotel Jardín Tecina before visiting the capital city, San Sebastián, or the iconic Garajonay National Park.

If you wish to visit somewhere different during your trip, here are a few alternatives to La Gomera’s most popular locations.

Alternatives To Garajonay National Park

Garajonay National Park is a 4,000-hectare space, mainly made up of laurel forest, with the presence of natural springs and streams. During a hike, you’ll pass many small, aromatic trees and large, green shrubs. If you’re on the hunt for unique flora and wish to visit somewhere different, visit the Benchijigua Natural Reserve to see a selection of protected plant species, including 40 different types of succulents and the Tajinaste, a tall, spikey plant covered in red flowers.

Garajonay National Park is known for having many hiking trails (18 to be exact) that allow tourists to get breathtaking views of the island. Majona Natural Park is also home to several walking and mountain bike tracks for a different kind of adventure. Keep an eye out for plain tiger butterflies fluttering past and the gomero wall gecko that’s endemic to La Gomera. You won’t want to miss them.

Alternatives To Valle Gran Rey Beaches

Some of the best beaches in La Gomera are said to be in the municipality of Valle Gran Rey, situated on the western side of the island. Playa Valle Gran Rey has a unique beauty that draws in many tourists each year. For a similar beach experience, why not visit La Cueva in San Sebastián.

This small, isolated cove showcases fine, black sand that has a volcanic origin, just like Playa Valle Gran Rey. In La Cueva, you can relax in the sun and paddle in the crystal clear waters while being shaded from the wind by the high land behind. On a clear day, you’ll have a stunning view of Mount Teide in the near distance.

Another alternative is Playa de la Caleta in Hermigua. This black-pebble beach features bars and picnic areas that are perfect for a bite to eat.

Alternatives To San Sebastián

San Sebastián is the island’s capital city, making it one of the busiest places to visit. It holds many historical landmarks and religious sites that attract visitors on day trips from the other Canary Islands and people staying on the island. If you wish to explore a local town without a large number of cruisers around, pop over to Agulo.

This charming spot in the north has cobbled streets and fairytale-like houses at its centre. Its most popular attraction is the Church of San Marcos Evangelista, which displays Gothic architecture through white marble exteriors. Inside you’ll discover a magnificent sculpture of Mark the Evangelist.

As well as visiting a fascinating church, much like the Church of Assumption in San Sebastián, Vallehermoso, another town worth visiting, is the perfect place to engross yourself in the locals’ day-to-day life. You can wander around the Plaza de la Constitución in search of local restaurants and bars.

If you’d like to see these alternative destinations on a holiday in La Gomera, book a stay at the beautiful Hotel Jardín Tecina with us now. Call us on 0800 035 0704 or contact us via our website.
