Volcanoes, food & wine!
What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Seeing lava rolling down the side of Stromboli after its recent eruption, and standing on top of Etna. I have seen and walked on many volcanoes in the world, but to see lava, visit a 40 km wide volcano and to stand on top of the one that gave the name to all other volcanoes, this was indeed something special.
What did you think of your group leader?
Gianluca was brilliant! He was very organized, ensuring the group maximised the time available, but without even making us feel rushed; he was extremely knowledgeable, and also had a great sense of humour. He bonded very well with the group, and even gave up most of his free day to be with the group. He was a pleasure to have as a leader.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Gaiters are essential on Etna. Descending the steep lava mountain sides is quiet fun...follow the lea dof the mountain guide and just run, but the gaiters are needed to stop fine lava filling your boots!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
As Nike say, 'Just do it'!
