Mountain Biking in Croatia - June 2014
What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
After a long hot climb (10km) on road and gravel tracks, watching the mountain hut (where we spent one night) creep into view was amazing. This was at nearly 1600m and the vistas across the National Park from the top were well worth the effort.
What did you think of your group leader?
Vladimir (and his assistant Pjer) were fantastic. They were extremely well-organised and looked after us (and the bikes) very well. They also spent time socialising with us in the evening and were great company. A good team!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you haven't done much cycling before, you may find this trip difficult. I am a keen road cyclist (having done some mountain biking) and have ridden long distances before, but a couple of days were not easy, especially the long climbs and a couple of technical descents on loose material. Don't let this put you off though, because it is not all difficult! If you like cycling and are reasonably fit, then go on this trip and see parts of Croatia that are not on the 'traditional' tourist map.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I found the areas that we visited to be inexpensive, as they were not tourist traps. Most evening meals are included so you only have to spend a few quid on lunch each day and this makes the trip good value for money. The last 2 days we had seafood lunches, so allow some extra money for that.
