Excellent biking holiday
What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I most enjoyed the very fast downhill road descent to Gospic on Day 3. Also really liked the route through the woods towards the start of Day 2, and coming down through the mountains on Day 4 was really good too. All in all a really well thought out route with some great views.
What did you think of your group leader?
Vlado is a born cyclist and leader, and is incredibly fit. He took great care of the group, even pushing those who needed a little help up the hills! He was meticulous, directive, and took responsibility for making sure everything was well organised and keeping the group together. Expect to be told exactly what to do. He and his mate Pjer, who drove the van and did a great job of supplying water, wine and laughter, made a great team - somehow their vastly different personalities, politics, and outlooks really worked well together.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you're looking for a trip where the focus is really on getting the best out of cycling, book this trip. I would say the mix of road to trail is actually closer to 35 / 65 (not 75 / 25!) but don't let that put you off - there are plenty of great mostly double track trails to get stuck in to on this trip, and the roads are mostly very quiet and scenic.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Day 2, involving 2000m of climbing and (for me) 8 hours on the bike is hard but doable. Bring a gel seat. The mountain hut at the top of the hill is in a beautiful location but it is very basic. Expect bean stew and sausage. Bringing your own blanket or sleeping bag would be a good idea.
