Highlights of Italy
What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Lots of moments: flying into Venice; sampling cichetti and ombre; views of St Marks and Doge Palace from San Giorgio Maggiore; beauty of Lake Como; pesto class in Levanto; walk in Cinque Terre; cathedral in Florence at night; relaxing in agriturisimo in Assissi; fabulous Bernini and Caravaggio masterpieces at Gallerie Borghese in Rome; pizza in Naples; gelato everywhere.
What did you think of your group leader?
Andrea Gambino was faultless. He was very knowledgeable, intelligent, patient, enthusiastic, great company, well organised and nothing was too much trouble. During free time he made sure everyone was comfortable being out of the group and helped us all with reservations, directions, etc. All the restaurants he took us to were reasonably priced and food was good and reflected region where we were at the time. All our travel by train was well thought out with no hiccups. I think everyone in our group really appreciated having Andrea as our leader and felt he greatly enhanced their enjoyment of the trip.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Pack as light as possible. Wheeled cases imperative as, although hotels are near to railway stations, some walking is unavoidable. There was always plenty of luggage space on trains. In September there were a lot of mosquitos at agriturisimo so do take insect repellent. Lots of free time but still not enough time to pack in everything so do have some ideas for activities in cities.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
All hotels were clean and comfortable. The hotel in Venice was particularly quirky and a lovely start to the holiday. All food was excellent. Our group were all very sociable and we had a lot of fun. All in all a great way to experience different areas of beautiful Italy.
