Oberammergau 2020 - Rail Holidays

A play of life and death, promised in a moment of mortal threat - so began the history of the Oberammergau Passion Play in 1633. It demonstrates the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ and is performed every ten years. It is regarded as the most important passion play in the world. The village at the edge of the Bavarian Alps expects approximately 450,000 visitors for the passion play, over half of which will be international guests. For the next Passion Play, there are 102 performances planned.

With excellent networks and breath-taking scenery, our rail holidays provide a convenient, and relaxing way to visit this once-in-a-lifetime event and explore the stunning regions surrounding it. Start your journey with flights from the UK to the Bavarian capital of Munich, before journeying to Oberammergau for your Passion Play experience. There's also the chance to explore the beautiful Bavarian countryside with trips to cities such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Nuremberg, or extend your stay even further and cross the border into Austria and the mighty cities of Vienna and Salzburg.
