Allgau Panorama

Allgau

The countryside of the Allgäu region, in south-west Bavaria, is dominated by the majestic Bavarian Alps and numerous lakes. The ten highest peaks of the Allgäu Alps, all around 2,600 metres high, are situated around Oberstdorf. The area is dotted with romantic little towns, many of them dating back to the Middle Ages, and idyllic villages with typically decorated houses. The Allgäu is famous for its picture-perfect views and no trip to the region would be complete without a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the most famous castles in the world, and the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle. The region is a paradise for those who enjoy the great outdoors. A vast network of well-marked paths and hiking trail, as well as many mountain railways and chairlifts, will take you up to the most scenic points.

The 700-year old town of Füssen boasts an intimate charm with its quaint cobbled streets and pretty medieval centre framed by the majestic peaks of the Alps. Far away from the hum of noisy traffic, you can stroll around soaking up the serene atmosphere in the pedestrian zone, indulge in many culinary delights and relax in one of Füssen's many beer gardens. The fairytale castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein take you back in time to the royal era of King Ludwig II.
