Places to shop

In the centre, you will find big department stores like Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), Åhléns and PUB. NK stands out as the premier Swedish department store and is where the upper classes of Stockholm go to do their shopping.

The area also offers shopping arcades like Gallerian, Sturegallerian and numerous large retail stores, including H&M and Zara.

Second-hand, fashion and design can be found in the Södermalm district. If you are looking for luxury goods and brands, head north to Östermalm. Boutiques are clustered around Birger Jarlsgatan, Biblioteksgatan, Nybrogatan, Östermalmstorg and Stureplan.

Bakfickan - Jakobs Torg 12

This is a secret address for delicious Swedish food and mainly visited by locals.


F12 - Fredsgatan 12

Set within the high-ceilinged interior of the Royal Academy of Arts, this is one of Stockholm's premier restaurants.


Restaurangen - Oxtorgsgatan 14

Restaurangen, with its high-ceilinged decor combined with international cuisine, is a favourite for many cosmopolitan Swedes.

Attractions

Stadshuset (Stockholm City Hall)

Located on the island of Kungsholmen you can find one of the finest examples of modern architecture in Europe - Stockholm City Hall. Climb the City Hall tower for fantastic views.


Gamla Stan

It is one of the best-preserved medieval city centres in the world.


Drottningholm Palace and Theater

If you want to visit Drottningholm Palace, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it will take about 3 hours of your time. It is sitting on an island in Lake Mälaren and is still the home of the royal family.


Skansen

This was the first open-air museum to open in the world, back in 1891, and it's still going strong. It is located on the green island of Djurgården.


Vasamuseet (Royal Warship Vasa)

The Royal Warship Vasa is the most frequently visited attraction in Scandinavia and is the world's oldest complete and identified ship.

Nightlife

Café Opera - Operahauset, Kungsträdgården

During the day, this is a bistro, brasserie and tearoom. In the evening, it transforms into one of the most crowded nightclubs in Stockholm.


Operahauset (Royal Opera House) - Gustav Adolfs Torg

Royal Swedish Opera and the Royal Swedish Ballet are hosted here. The building dates back to 1898.


Pontus! - Brunnsgatan 1

This bar is located in the very heart of Stockholm. On three levels, it offers you a wide range of food and drinks.


White Room - Jakobsbergsgatan 29

The white interior and theatrical lighting attract some of the best DJs in Sweden. This is a really stylish club and known for its great atmosphere.
