Located within the grounds of the Heidelberg Castle, the romantic market is steeped in tradition and considered one of the most iconic events in the city. The castle itself plays host to the Art-Advent calendar, the windows of this stunning building serve as a multidimensional advert calendar. A work by a prominent artists is reveled every day between the 1st and 24th of December, illuminating and decorating the facade of the castle. 

Stroll around six different Heidelberg Christmas market events, with more than 140 beautifully decorated stalls, making sure you take in the city's famous sights. Sample all the seasonal highlights the Old Town has to offer with a walk starting at the 'Bismarckplatz' Christmas market, passing the garden of anatomy and lastly reaching the market at University square. The stalls on the market square and the Kornmarkt offer culinary treats while the Karlsplatz market hosts the popular 'Christmas on Ice', ice skating rink.

There is also a market held in the Heidelberg palace gardens for the 12 days of Christmas, offering visitors a selection of German Christmas ornaments, decorations and gifts all handmade by craftsmen. Classical music drifts through the air, played from the palace chapel, as well as the aroma of fresh gingerbread, making a walk through these snowy gardens a truly unique and special experience.
